David Morse's Resources

Average Rating4.92
(based on 7005 reviews)

I regularly upload resources that I have created during 30 years as a teacher. Most of these are maths, but there are some ICT/Computing and Tutor Time activities. All of the resources are my own and are not available from third-parties. The resources have been tweaked over time and I have had many happy lessons and shed-loads of happy and successful students. At the end of 2017 the TES announced that I was the most downloaded new author and in 2018 another 2 million were added to the count.

12 Days of Christmas (Interactive Whiteboard Challenge)

Can you remember how many Ladies were dancing? I can, thanks to this game 😃. This is a fun interactive whiteboard game, created in PowerPoint, with nice images and animations. It is suitable for all ages because you can make it as challenging as you want. --- It is a memory game which is enjoyable for both high and low ability – it helps students to learn what gift was sent on each of the twelve days of Christmas and in its most challenging form, helps them practice techniques to remember where each of the images/descriptions are hidden. Doing this activity on an interactive whiteboard gets the whole class involved – even when it's not their turn, students are thinking of the next ‘gift’ in their head (or out aloud) and they are desperate to say where it is! Suggestions for this activity: 1. Click the first button and go through the words of the song, perhaps several times. (after the first time, ask students if they can remember the next image/description before you display it). 2. Click the second button for the ‘Game with Images’. When you press ‘play’ and the board is revealed, press ‘peek’ to look at the uncovered board so that the students can try to learn where each of the images are; Depending upon the ability of the students, I would go through all of the images on the uncovered board, describing each image out aloud as it is touched (first go through in order from 12 down to 1, then you can do random images and see if the students remember what the image depicts. 3. Now return to the covered board and select a student. The student can try and uncover as many images as they can (in the correct order) before they go wrong. 4. In the beginning, I would allow the student to seek help from another (if they want) or, if they get four right, I might let them ‘peek’ again. (the main point of the game is to get students to learn the order of the 12 Christmas Gifts, so make up any rules that allow them to do this as many times as possible 😃) NOTES: • Encourage the students to say aloud the phrase that they are looking for because this reinforces the learning; • You may like to allow students to make two or three mistakes before they relinquish their turn; • You may allow a 15 second ‘peek’ after each student has their turn; • This activity works well as a teacher-led activity in which the class ‘vote’ which square is uncovered next. • Before it is played as a memory game, you as the teacher could randomly select a square and see if students can remember what image is hidden. Reveal the square to see if they are right and then repeat with a different covered square.

Winter Olympics 2018 Lesson/Assembly Presentation

If you want some extra information about the 2018 Winter Olympics then go through this interesting interactive PowerPoint presentation, It takes you through the different event categories; why the emblem was the way it was; and why there was a white cat with stripes. This presentation is not only informative, it has links to 24 short videos that show top athletes performing in each of the sports. If they watched the Winter Games, your students will probably tell which videos to show. Some of these videos are amazing . We watched our greatest medal hope, Elise Christie, succumb to the perils of Short-Track Speed Skating, but have you seen when it worked in favour of Steven Bradbury when he 'won' his unbelievable Gold Medal win in the 2002 Olympics – it really was a matter of Last Man Standing! The topics covered within the presentation include: Location and dates, Venues and the stadiums The emblems and mascots The events and their pictograms. Note that the presentation contains interactive buttons which allow you to jump to different parts of the presentation and then return. My recommendation is that you go through the presentation slide by slide until you get to the information on the venues. From here, I recommend that you select the particular sports that take your interest. If you have a live Internet connection, then watch some of the videos – especially the ones that I’ve labelled with 5-stars. If you like this presentation then please leave a review.

Kindness Quotes (Wall Display, Mini-Cards, PowerPoint)

(2)
Printables and PowerPoints Below is a description of how my lesson would typically go… Start: I have the PowerPoint running as the students arrive. It should go through a few loops by the time everyone is settled. As the PowerPoint is running, I give out the min-cards (one between two/three). Activities: I ask the students to discuss the quotes and arrange them into order so that the quotes that they like the most go at the top. I stop the class and have a discussion about favourite (kindness) quotes and why they like them. I might also ask why some were not liked. I then ask about kindness that students have shown, or kindnesses that have been shown to them. What were their feelings at the time (and now). Using the Internet (if students are allowed phones), or otherwise, students can find/make up some other kindness quotes. Class discussion on some of the additional quotes (I might add new quotes to the PowerPoint) Ending: I display the ‘finish-the-quote’ PowerPoint and go through and see if students can finish the quote (I might go through this a couple of times). I might pick individuals to answer, if too many are shouting out!
